Canadian Lt. Robert Hampton "Hammy" Grey, from Nelson, B.C., attacks a Japanese destroyer on August 9, 1945. His Corsair in flames, Grey continues his determined attack, sinking the destroyer. Grey was killed - five days before Japan's surrender. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
